The IK Multimedia iLoud Precision 5: Built-In Calibration
The trend where studio monitors come outfitted with on-board calibration tech only pushes on. In fact, the iLoud Precision 5 offers built-in ARC calibration, supports the X-MONITOR control software and includes a MEMS measurement microphone so you can ensure fully neutral sound no matter the room you're in. Also, despite its modest 5-inch woofer, it's worth noting that IK Multimedia's latest studio monitor can dive as low as 46 Hertz (39 Hertz even at -4dB), giving you everything you could ever need to mix tracks in minute detail.

IK Multimedia Introduce iLoud Precision Studio Monitors

These speakers are a step forward for the iLoud range. As a previous owner of the iLoud MTM I can say they are different in several ways. The precision 5 are not the ‘point source’ design like the MTM, they mimic more mass market two-way speakers, from Adam/KRK etc. That means the speakers interact with your acoustic environment more, and sound a bit smoother and further away. The MTMs will sound more ‘in your face’, and with more details apparent. The precision 5s have a deeper bass extension (because of the larger woofer), and this is a pleasurable listen. I would say overall a more hi-fi sounding speaker than a ‘mixing and mastering’ kind of speaker (although it can be used for that purpose for sure). The calibration software has been greatly improved, with a four-point calibration instead of one. Still an upgrade from the iLoud MTMs, but I do not know if it’s worth picking for this price over something like Neumann / Genelec.
